Weymouth has so much to offer as a place to retire, relax and explore.
Weymouth beach fun
The fun never stops in Weymouth! Bask in three miles of gorgeous golden sands lapped by safe, shallow waters where the kids can play for hours. Chug along the promenade on the land train for a gentle seaside ride.
Head to the harbour
Just steps away from the beach, meander through the quaint and colourful streets on your way to Weymouth’s beautiful quayside harbour with its historic lifting bridge. Sit alfresco at one of the many restaurants, bars and cafes and enjoy the catch of the day or savour some mouth-watering fish and chips as you wander by the boats.
A Portland paradise
There is something truly special about Portland, it’s a place like no other and is a must visit destination in Dorset, right at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘The Jurassic Coast’. Famed for its Olympic sailing waters, this is an island begging to be explored. Rugged and romantic, there are miles of paths where you’ll find grazing goats and get close to the wildlife at every turn. The views are all spectacular, but not many can beat the vista of Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon from the top of the island, it will take your breath away!
So much to see and do
History and heritage is all around so you’ll never be short of something to do. Climb the majestic Portland Bill lighthouse, explore castles, museums, sculpture trails and even spot a wallaby on a family farm. Getting back to nature is what Portland is all about and a great starting point is the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre – chat to volunteers and get involved in the many activities on offer. If you are feeling energetic The South West Coastal Walk provides some great walking opportunities where dramatic landscapes and seascapes are revealed with every twist and turn.
Time to relax and refuel
After a day of fun and fresh air exploring on Portland, you’ll be pleased to know that there are many places to relax and refuel. Fresh fish and locally sourced produce appears in eateries all over the island.
